Just for Fun Class fall 19

Looking for something fun to do this fall? Take a non-credit class at JJC! JJC's continuing education courses are fun and interest-based, meant more for enjoyment than a grade. These classes, which are open to both students and community members, cover a wide range of topics which include local history, cooking, music, crafts and more. They are offered every semester.

1. Horror and Gore Make-up (LLC 5324)
Main Campus
Thursday, Sept. 5
6 to 8:30 p.m.

Sign up for this fun make-up workshop to learn techniques just in time for the Halloween season. This hands-on workshop will cover how to use a range of mediums to create cuts, blisters, open scabs, burns and gashes with liquid latex (a substitute can be provided for those with latex allergy). Open to ages 18 and up. All supplies provided.

2. Introduction to Crochet with Catherine 101 (LLC 4767)

6 to 9 p.m.

Want to learn how to crochet? Join us for an evening of basic crochet stitches,(sc, sl, ch) tips and techniques. Yarn and hooks will be included. Project: Blanket and Scarf. Skill level: Beginner.

3. What Your Signature Says About You (LLC 5346)

Signatures say a lot about your personality. Learn how handwriting analysts discern personality traits from written and printed formations while gaining insight into your own thinking style, emotional expression, relationships and more in this introductory class.

4. Secrets of Great Video (LLC 5707)
Main Campus
Tuesdays, Sept. 17 to Nov. 5
6 to 9 p.m.

This comprehensive, hands-on workshop will guide students through the process of creating videos with impact. Each week will cover a different topic: developing a storyline, composition, format, lensing, using attachments, stabilization, lighting adding music and editing. Whether you are using a cell phone, digital camera or video camera, students will be able to practice and apply skills in this creative course.

Wish it was easy to meditate? It can be! Learn and experience basic meditation elements, tools and techniques that will help you on your journey to mindfulness, ease and joy. Feel free to bring a pillow or blanket.

6. Design Your Own Pop-up Christmas Card (LLC 5665)

9 to 11 a.m.

Send your friends and family an original pop-up holiday card this year! This course will show you how to combine family photos and other visuals with basic paper engineering and design principles so you can create a custom card that will pop with excitement and be remembered forever. No drawing skills are necessary.

7. Pottery Workshop - Luminary (LLC 5670)

6 to 7 p.m.

Using basic hand-pottery techniques, you will learn how to craft a luminary candle holder to adorn space with warm, soft light. No previous pottery experience is needed and all supplies will be provided. Please register early; space is limited.

9. Hidden History: The Apollo Program and John Houbolt (LLC 5705)
Main Campus
Tuesday, Nov. 19
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first man on the moon and learn about John Houbolt, a NASA aerospace engineer who grew up in Joliet. Houbolt is credited with leading the team behind the lunar orbit rendezvous mission mode, a concept that was used to successfully land humans on the Moon and return them to Earth.
