How to Apply for JJC Scholarships (1)

In planning your academic future, you’re likely exploring costs, plus federal and state financial aid assistance. For Joliet Junior College students, the window is now open to also apply for fall 2021 scholarships.

Scholarships are awarded through the JJC Foundation, with over 895 provided last year totaling more than $757,000 in support. Get the most out of your education at JJC and apply for fall 2021 scholarships by the May 1 deadline. Here’s how:

We’ve outlined the steps to apply for JJC scholarships below. You can also review this how-to video to walk you through the process.

Visit the Dashboard

The dashboard is located at the top of the scholarship homepage. You’ll need your school username and password to log in – the same that you use to access your JJC email. Here is where you can view any completed applications, as well as incomplete applications that still require attention. To maximize your opportunity for financial assistance, be sure to complete any outstanding applications prior to the deadline.

The dashboard is also where you’ll learn if any scholarships have been awarded to you. For fall 2021 scholarship applicants, recipients are typically announced by early July. You’ll also be notified by your JJC student email.

In order to submit your scholarship application, there are five sections you’ll need to complete: General information, academic information, financial information, qualification questions, and free form questions.

General Information:

In order to apply for scholarships, students must agree to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release to allow the college to pull your financial aid and academic information. You’ll also need to enter your name and contact information, as well as other identifying information such as age and gender. Please note, personal information questions help identify which scholarships you may qualify for.

Academic Information:

Select major, degree you’re pursuing, an estimated GPA, the high school you attended, and if you intend to transfer to another school after JJC.

Financial Information:

If you will not be completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), this section is where you can submit details explaining your financial situation, as well as the option to share your expected family contribution.

Qualification Questions:

Complete all these questions to help determine scholarship eligibility.

Free Form Questions:

There are three essay questions that scholarship applicants must answer:

  • Describe your current educational and career plans.
  • Describe your participation in any activities at school, in the community, extracurricular activities or volunteer work.
  • Describe any extenuating circumstances which may contribute to your financial need as it relates to pursuing your educational goals.

This is a very important step in determining scholarship need, and can help you stand out amongst other applicants. It is recommended you have someone you know review your answers before submitting.

Other Tips, Options for Transfer Students

The JJC Foundation has provided guidelines for how to apply, including how to answer essay questions and frequently asked questions on the scholarship page.

JJC also has several transfer scholarships intended for graduates who are planning to attend a four-year school. Email kbaker@jjc.edu to learn more.

Remember, the deadline to apply for fall 2021 scholarships is May 1. Take advantage and get the most out of your education!
