Attending community college is one of the smartest decisions you can make for your future. This is a sentiment that New York Magazine and Huffpost reporter Yashar Ali knows all too well. In a tweet from March 14, he asked other Twitter users to express their love for community colleges - and several of our very own JJC alums replied.
See a few of the tweets below - and thank you to all of our wonderful alums for giving us a shout out!
Attended @JolietJrCollege from 2001 to 2004, which is where I discovered my love for chemistry. Went on to graduate with my BS from @northcentralcol in 2006 and my PhD from @ChemistryUIUC in 2010. I'm now an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at @uiowa. https://t.co/FMoUCvKQ5c

The only reason I have any degrees is because of @JolietJrCollege and govt financial aid. I now have a bachelors in English and a Masters in Library & Information Science and I’m an Adult Services Librarian. 👩🎓 https://t.co/6vNEVgKXdM

I started off at @JolietJrCollege in Joliet, IL - took some prerequisites there for a lot less money before going onto a 4-year college, and a master's degree after that. I'm an independent graphic designer - a pretty good one, if I do say so myself :) https://t.co/SeAJ2OSSGw

I earned an Associate of Arts degree from Joliet Junior College, the first community college in the U.S., and then went on to earn more degrees and work for 25 years as an English professor at a community college. https://t.co/DSaaopkTmC

I went to Joliet Junior College and now I’m completing my master’s degree. I wouldn’t have been able to afford college if I hadn’t have gone to community college first. Thanks to JJC, financial aid, and scholarships, I am able to show my children that this isn’t impossible.
